Habitats are huge structures the size of small towns where citizens live their lives independently. They have their own life support systems, ordinances, social clubs, etc ... in exchange for living in these cities, citizens pay taxes to the faction that controls the base.
Biosphere habitats almost perfectly replicate a complex natural environment. The human beings who reside in one have most of the time the feeling that they have been in a natural place of the old Earth.
