Fighter
A fighter is a spacecraft smaller than a capital ship that does not have a hyperspace jump capability or create a fleet by itself and perform fleet orders. The fighters are contained within bases or fleets and attack and defend with them. They can be transferred between bases or fleets of the same sub-sector and be transferred to other subsectors through carriers.
They are constituted by a fighter chassis and special modules for fighters. They are designed just like any ship and are built in space shipyards. Like a ship, fighters can be upgraded to new models also using a [[space shipyard[]].
The main disadvantage of a fighter with respect to a ship is the lack of ability to move from the subsector in which it finds itself. They are basically defense units and can only attack if they are loaded into a fleet. The bases and fleets can carry fighters if they have fighter hangars.
The advantages of the fighters with respect to the ships are the following:
- They are cheaper and faster to produce. They also have a lower maintenance cost.
- They only need one or two crew, so the cost of booking the population is very low.
- They can have a very high maneuverability and firepower, turning them into ships difficult to shoot down if specialized and very dangerous weapons are not available for capital ships, especially bombers.
